Grass/Leaf Pick Up
Leaf Pick up will begin November 1st annually. Rake your leaves to the edge of the curb. Be careful not to mix in grass, sticks or branches. Do not rake leaves into the street or block fire hydrants. Leaves can also be disposed of with your regular rubbish collection, as long as they are bagged and within the weight limit. Several passes will be made around the City to ensure as many leaves as possible are picked up. If you miss a round of pick-up in your neighborhood, City trucks will be back through neighborhoods until snow is a regular occurrence.
Senior Snow Removal
Snow removal for income eligible seniors will begin
after the first 2 inches of snowfall. To help us maintain
fast service, please keep your driveway free of vehicles and
keep fences open. We ask that you please be patient as we
plow over 400 driveways. Applications for the senior citizen
or physically disabled snow removal program, please call (216) 661-7372.
Senior Lawn Mowing
Lawn mowing for income eligible seniors begins when
school lets out for the summer in June and will last for 10
weeks. This program is considered supplemental. Applications
can be obtained by calling (216) 661-7372.
Street Snow Removal
Snow removal on our streets will be prompt and efficient
as possible. We plow the main streets first, hills and then
the neighborhoods. Please keep your vehicles off the street
during snowfall, especially when the snow exceeds 2 inches
and the Parking Ban comes into effect.
Snow Plow Damage
If your tree lawn has been damaged by City snow plows,
please call the complaint department at (440) 885-8083 and
you will be placed on a repair list. Repairs will begin in
early spring or when weather permits.
Water Breaks
Water breaks that occur on City streets, tree lawns,
etc. are the responsibility of the City of Cleveland Division
of Water. If a water break is called in to our department
or the complaint department, it is dispatched to the City
of Cleveland for repair.
Sewer Department
The Sewer Department is open Monday through Friday
from 7:00 a.m. Until 3:00 p.m. If you need assistance, please
call (440) 885-8194.

Rubbish Removal
The City of Parma’s rubbish collection is provided
by Browning-Ferris Industries (BFI)/Allied Waste. They may be reached at
1-800-433-1309.
Collections are not made on the following holidays:
- New Year’s Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
If any of the above holidays fall on a week day, each collection
after that holiday during that week will be delayed one day.
All garbage and refuse shall be picked up once each week
on a day specified on the map. Please place refuse within 5 feet of the curb by 7:00 a.m. On your scheduled day, please place trash in 20-35 gallon rubbish containers or plastic bags not to exceed 45-50 pounds. Trash can be placed out the night before but not
before 6:00 p.m. Please refrain from putting broken glass,
syringes or sharp object loosely into plastic bags. This will
prevent lacerations and puncture wounds from occurring.
Click here to view a map of the area.
In addition to household rubbish, bagged grass, bagged leaves,
furniture and appliances including refrigerators will be accepted.
If placing refrigerators out for the rubbish, please make
sure the door is removed. The doors will be picked up with
the regular rubbish and the box will picked up by a private
hauler within 48 hours of your pick up date.
Hedge cuttings, limbs and branches must be securely tied
not exceeding 3 feet in length and 35 lbs in weight.
The following items are excluded from pick up:
Building material resulting from construction, remodeling, repair or demolition operations, dirt, sod and large automotive parts generated by a residential unit. Waste generated by commercial contractors is also excluded.
If you have a special circumstance, or if you question whether your trash would fall into one of these categories, please contact BFI directly at the number listed above.
Recycling (Curb Side)
BFI has purchased recycling trucks to allow for
the separation of newspaper and other commingled products
at the point of pick up. Please place newsprint in a brown
paper bag (this allows us to recycle the bag along with
the newspapers).
- Newspapers - In an effort to make recycling easier,
place all newspapers in a separate brown grocery bag (not
blue plastic) for collection. Please no magazines, phone
books, milk cartons or other paper products.
- Glass - Recycle all glass beverage bottles and
jars. Please rinse containers and remove lids and neck rings.
Paper labels do not need to be removed. Do not include used
pesticide or herbicide containers, window glass, light bulbs,
mirrors or ceramics. Please place them with your regular
rubbish.
- Plastic - Recycle rinsed milk containers and plastic soda bottles and containers that have the number 1 or 2 stamped on the bottom. Exclude items #3 through #7 plastic, motor oil, antifreeze, pesticide and herbicide containers. Please place them with your regular rubbish.
- Aluminum & Steel Cans - Rinse aluminum and steel cans. Please remove all paper from the cans.
Collect glass, plastic, aluminum and steel cans and place them together in one blue plastic recycling bag. Place recyclables on the curb next to your rubbish on your scheduled collection day. Although your recyclable materials should be placed out at the same time as your rubbish, your blue bags may be picked up at a different time on that day. Please note that blue bags containing garbage, trash or rubbish will be left at the curb.
It is important that you tie your blue bags securely. If you crush metal and plastic containers, you will use fewer bags, saving money and storage place. It is not necessary to put out a bag every week, just put it out when full. Blue recycling bags are available wherever trash bags are sold.
Plastics #1 – #7, aluminum cans, newspapers, glass, and cardboard can be dropped off at the following locations:
Ridge Road Transfer Station
3727 Ridge Road
Cleveland, OH 44144
Or
Brooklyn Heights United Church of Christ
2005 West Schaaf Road
Cleveland, OH 44109
The City of Parma prefers its residents to recycle aluminum cans at the local fire stations, and mixed paper be placed in any of the Abitibi Bin locations. These drop-off areas are beneficial in recycling plastics #5, #6, #7 and cardboard.
