Rumpke Rubbish Removal

Rumpke is Parma's waste and recycling company. The family-owned company, based in Circleville, Ohio, has provided services to residents and businesses throughout the region for nearly 90 years.

Garbage & Recycling

Garbage, recycling and yard waste are collected once a week. 

  • Use the brown Rumpke cart for regular trash and the smaller green Rumpke cart for recycling. 
  • Place refuse, yard waste or bulk trash within three feet of the curb by 7 am. 
  • Trash can be placed outside the day before pickup but not before noon.
  • If needed, a resident can put out six extra bags (plastic or paper) or three extra 32-gallon garbage cans of waste.

Yard Waste

  • Yard waste can be added to the regular rubbish (brown cart), placed in brown paper yard waste bags or put in plastic lawn bags. 
  • Do not place yard waste in the green recycle cart. 
  • Yard waste is collected on regular pickup days throughout the year.
  • Small tree or shrub branches can be placed in the brown cart, brown paper or plastic lawn bags or cut and bundled. 
  • The filled lawn bags or bundled branches must not weigh more than 40 pounds and should be placed on the tree lawn with other refuse.

Household Hazardous Waste

  • Do not place household hazardous waste in the Rumpke carts. 
  • Batteries, oil-based paints, motor oil, scrap tires, pool chemicals, propane tanks, hot ashes, large car parts or syringes should not be put in the carts. These items pose a fire, safety or environmental hazard.

Parma Ordinance Number 131-16 allows for the collection of a rubbish pickup fee collected through Cuyahoga County Fiscal Office. For more information about this fee, call the Service Department at 440-885-8191.

Holiday Schedule

Collections are not made on the following holidays:

  • New Year's Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

If a holiday listed above lands on a weekday, collection after the holiday is delayed one day. If the holiday lands on a Saturday or Sunday, collection will not be delayed.

Bulk Pickup Guidelines

Proper Disposal of Bulk Waste (PDF)

Residents can have their bulk garbage picked up on their weekly rubbish days. Bulk items such as appliances, mattresses, box springs, sofas and large furniture can be placed on the tree lawn.

Rumpke requires discarded mattresses, box springs and upholstered furniture such as sofas to be wrapped in sealable plastic. This is to prevent the possible transfer of bedbugs onto service workers' clothing.

Large cardboard boxes that do not fit in the carts must be broken down, folded and placed next to the cart on the tree lawn.
