Safety Department Permits

Garage Sales

Residents are entitled to three garage sale permits each year for a period of three consecutive days (Sundays prohibited) on each permit.  Garage Sale Permits are obtained online.

Block Parties

Neighborhoods organizing block parties in the warm weather months may be required to close the street during the block party hours. An application must be submitted to the Safety Department 14 days prior to the party, including the block party date and time, the street name, area of the street to be blocked off, and a name and phone number of a contact person. In addition, together with the completed application, a petition must be submitted with signatures from a majority of residents on the street agreeing to street closure on the block party date. The application will be reviewed and a determination will be made including any required safety conditions.

Charitable Games or Games of Chance

A nonprofit or charitable organization holding a Vegas Night, Night at the Races, or game-of-chance event must obtain a permit. An eligible nonprofit organization can hold up to two events per year. The organization must submit an application which will be reviewed to ensure legal compliance. A facility where such events take place can hold up to four of these types of events per year.

Itinerant Vendor

An individual who wants to sell products at a stand outside a building on commercial property must obtain an itinerant vendor permit.

Parades

Any organization sponsoring a parade on city streets must obtain a parade permit.

Peddlers

An individual who wants to solicit business in a residential area or at business establishments must obtain a peddler permit.

Winter Overnight Parking

Overnight parking is prohibited on all city streets November 15 through April 15 between the hours of 2:00 AM and 6:00 AM. A special permit to park on the street may be issued in limited situations if there is a specified legal hardship.  Winter Parking Permits are obtained online. Applications are reviewed to ensure that a hardship exists consistent with legal requirements.

Keep in mind, however, that one still may not leave vehicles parked in the street more than 24 hours even with a permit. Further, no one may park on the street during an emergency parking ban.

Emergency Short-Term Street Parking

Residents may request special permission for emergency short-term, on-street parking, for example, when engaged in moving in/out, repairing driveways, substantial home repairs, etc. Requests for on-street parking exceptions must be made to the Safety Department for review.

Permit Application Submission

All completed safety department applications and requests should be sent to Safety Department Email.
